BALANCED ON A MOMENT

Non-Fiction, Essays and Illustrations, 2020

This book introduces four of the author’s box sets of printed illustrations and presents four essays. Two chapters express ideas about art: one calls for artists and their critics to embrace new technologies; the other challenges scientists, engineers, and educators to accept design as an equal partner in STEM.  The other two essays address the importance of taking time to fully experience the fleeting seconds between what just passed and what is about to happen, whenever and wherever those moments occur. A lot can take place in that brief span of time.

THE THREADS THAT BIND

Non-Fiction, Memoire, 2022
Publication pending

From the 1950s French evacuation of Vietnam and the Mercury program in the early 60s, the strands of this story stretch across log cabins, vineyards and beaches, family, and the kindness of friends and strangers, all the while weaving in cultural milestones and memes such as the Hubble Space telescope, 9/11, and game-changing hurricanes. A great little biopic about the hidden similarities and differences passed down in family generations past that influence us and in turn, the generations to come.

FOLLOWERSHIP: THE MANUAL (4TH ED.)

Non-Fiction, Business, 2016

I’m a “follower,” but not just any subordinate. I’m THE follower, that really, really good deputy, “his right arm man,” or “best Girl Friday ever.” Mostly, I’m invisible but things just seem to succeed around me. Great followers and followership have been around from the beginning but overshadowed by leadership’s rewards and the charisma of leaders. During all that time, however, followers have noted, tested, and refined truisms by carefully studying the leaders they chose to follow. Perhaps the first of its kind, this book collects those tenets and wraps them up in a practical pocket-sized manual.

COLLABORATIONS & COMMENTS

The benefits of asking for opinions and impressions of both of the following books, especially from strangers and friends who have no reason to hold back candid (but courteous!) suggestions, are obvious. My gratitude, however, is not so obvious, so please let me make it clear: thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, in advance for helping me make such otherwise dry non-fiction prose more interesting, entertaining, clear, and relevant. I look forward to your insight.
